TTCU recently announced that it awarded $58,735 in grants to 16 educators in 2023 and is actively seeking applicants for 2024.
“I’m proud of the great work the TTCU Cares Foundation has done to help our educators in need,” President and CEO Tim Lyons said. “We’ve helped teachers pay for funeral expenses, deal with a vehicle unexpectedly dying, recover financially after a house fire and much more.”
The Classroom Heroes grants are available to educators suffering financial hardship. They are designed to help Oklahoma’s teachers be able to stay in the classroom. Grants are given up to $5,000 to help teachers with unexpected expenses.
“This is the first year that we have offered the grants,” Lyons said. “We look forward to increasing the number of teachers that we help in 2024. “This is the first year that we have offered the grants,” Lyons said. “We look forward to increasing the number of teachers that we help in 2024, and we invite the community to join us in this effort.”
As a credit union founded by teachers 90 years ago, giving back to education has always been important to TTCU. TTCU has given over $3 million to schools through its School Pride® program, but the Classroom Heroes grants are unique in that the funds are paid directly to the teachers in need.
Grants are awarded throughout the year on a rolling basis.
